From translation to investor dialogue

JII grew out of years of experience translating securities research and earnings-call transcripts, followed by interpreting meetings between Japanese companies and overseas investors.

Began working professionally as a translator, handling internal documents for an organization in Japan.

2012

2015

Relocated to Japan and continued working as a Japanese-to-English translator.

2018

Joined the investment research division of a major Japanese securities firm, translating sell-side equity research into English.

2019

Became independent after working at an independent research provider with extensive small-cap coverage. Went on to translate a large volume of earnings-call transcripts and other investor materials for Japanese companies.

This work provided extensive exposure to the questions analysts ask, the issues they seek to clarify, and the way management teams explain changes in performance and their businesses.

Began interpreting meetings between Japanese companies and overseas investors. Around the same time, began publishing in-depth research on under-covered Japanese small-cap companies.

2021

Research on Japanese small-cap companies was featured by the US financial publication TheStreet.

2021–2023

Published research on Japanese small-cap and undervalued companies on X. Overseas investors who came across this work began reaching out about arranging and interpreting company meetings during visits to Japan.

September 4, 2023

Established Japan Investor Interface Co., Ltd.

JII began by providing IR translation and interpretation and supporting company meetings for overseas investors in Japan.

Autumn 2023

Supported a week-long research trip by a US-based investor, arranging and interpreting approximately 15 company meetings across Tokyo, Osaka, Shizuoka, and Gunma.

This was followed by a week-long visit by a Hong Kong-based hedge fund, for which JII arranged and interpreted approximately 25 company meetings, primarily in Tokyo and the surrounding area.

January 2024

Began translating analyst research for a well-established domestic securities firm specializing in small- and mid-cap companies. The relationship subsequently expanded to include interpretation for investor meetings arranged through the firm.

May 2026

Renewed the JII corporate website and resumed publication of Japan Investor Interface, JII's official research publication, on Substack.

Expanded JII's positioning beyond IR translation and interpretation to include support for English-language disclosure from the planning stage, drawing on experience gained from direct participation in meetings between Japanese companies and overseas investors.
